Ms. C came in before Christmas and did a body positive boudoir session as a surprise for her hubby. And when I say surprise, I mean complete surprise: All he knew was that his Christmas present this year was going to be really special.
From the planning to the session to scheduling the reveal, we kept it all on the down low, and he didn’t suspect a thing.
In fact, he was pretty confused when Ms. C brought him to a random residential address to get his present. And when we revealed the finished images, I’m pretty sure I saw a tear or two lurking in both their eyes. <3
Ms. C refreshed the color in her hair just before her session, which was a great idea, since it made both the colors in her lovely hair and in her tattoos pop.
Her lingerie is from Torrid, and psst, want to know a secret? That amazing glittering gold wrap in some of the photos? My champagne sequin photography backdrop. At 10×20 feet, it’s plenty large enough to wrap or cover anything, and when draped around a person it looks like a shimmering golden gown.
Ms. C has a skin condition that makes the skin on her palms and the soles of her feet rough, red and painful. As I tell all my clients, I won’t erase permanent or semi-permanent features of your body, like fat rolls, braces or wrinkles, but I did tone down the redness of her skin in those spots a bit to keep from detracting from the overall photos.
I think it’s easy for us to list our “shortcomings” — to extrapolate from what Ms. C’s inner dialogue might look like, oh, I’m fat, I have a double chin, I have braces, my hands and feet are sore and red — and think that we’re ugly and unworthy. But we all — of any (or no) gender or orientation — have the right to feel beautiful, to take advantage of and have access to the techniques that result in what we call “pretty,” to feel good in our own skin.
